ASROCK K7VT2 und TV-Karte

Hallo Leute !

Habe ein Problem mit dem genanntem MoBo und meiner TV-Karte (Terratec Cinergy600, Chipsatz Philips SAA7134):

Vor ca. 6 Wochen habe ich mir diese Tv-Karte gekauft und in meinem damaligen Rechner (Mobo ECS K7VZA mit Duron700) keine Probleme gehabt. Ausser dass der Rechner eben zu langsam zum capturen von TV-Sendungen war. Daraufhin habe ich mir ein neues Bord (ASROCK) mit einem Athlon XP2000+ geleistet. Soweit so gut, aber die TV-Karte will nicht so recht arbeiten.
D.h.: erst wollte sie gar nicht und nach dann nach einem BIOS update von Version1.10 auf 1.20 funktioniert es, aber nur unsauber. Die Framerate beim capturen geht nicht über 12fps hinaus. (und das bei 20%CPU-Auslastung) Leichte Artefakte habe ich auch.
Habe schon wirklich fast alles probiert, z.B:
-Karte umgesteckt auf anderen PCI-Slot
-alle anderen Karten entfernt (Sound, Modem)
-Neuinstallation von Win XP Prof.
-neueste Treiber (VIA-Chipsatz, Graka[Geforce2Ti500],Tv-Karte,BIOS)
-verschiedene Software (aber die meiste Software ist eh auf die VfW-Treiber ausgelegt [z.B. VirtualDub]und nicht für WDM-Treiber wie sie für den Philps SAA7134 erforderlich sind)
-auch der Support von Terratec ist ratlos, habe dort sogar die Karte tauschen lassen

Nachdem ich vor ein paar Tagen das neue BIOS 1.20 auf der ASrock-HP entdeckte (Release 12.12.02) und im Zusatztext den Hinweis auf ein Bugfix mit TV-Karten lass wurde mir klar, dass das wahrscheinlich ein Prob mit dem BIOS ist.



Hat jemand ähnliche Erfahrungen? Oder hat jemand eine andere TV-Karte installiert evtl. mit Booktree-Chipsatz die läuft?

Hi,
habe auch das K7VT2 mit Bios 1.20 und einer TV Karte von Pinnacle (PCTV Studio Rave). Bei mir hat es bisher mit keinem Bios (hatte auch schon 1.0 und 1.1 auf dem Board) Probleme mit der TV Karte gegeben.
Der Chip ist ein BT 8x8.

Es gibt seit gestern wohl ein aktuelles Bios-Update für das Motherboard:

Datum 31.12.02 allerdings auch die Version 1.2, ebenfalls mit Hinweis auf das TV-Karten problem.

Hallo TMK,

ja das habe ich auch schon gesehen. Danke für die Info. Doch das scheint das gleiche zu sein bzw. ist das selbe wie das BIOS-File mit Datum vom 12.12.02. Ich habe mir gestern auch das heruntergezogen und beide Files verglichen. (gut das wir verglichen haben) Exakt gleich. Das mit dem neuerem Datum vom 31.12. verwundert mich auch. Trotzdem habe ich das BIOS 1.20 von gestern geflash, aber keine Verbesserung.

Ich habe auch heute ein Supportanfrage in Englisch an die ASROCK-Mannschaft nach Taiwan gesendet. Ich glaube zwar nicht, dass ich dort eine Antwort erhalte, aber man kann ja nie wissen. Wenn ich eine Anwort erhalte poste ich das hier auch im Forum.

In der Zwischenzeit kann ich mir aussuchen die Misere zu akzeptieren, noch etwas auf ein besseres BIOS zu warten oder in neue Hardware zu investieren. Letzteres wäre der schlechteste Weg nach dem Motto "Try and Error" einfach mal auf blauen Dunst die Grafikkarte zu erneuern oder DDR-RAM zu kaufen ohne zu wissen, dass das die Lösung ist. Eine TV-Karte mit dem alten Booktree-Chipsatz kommt nicht in Frage, da dieser einfach mit seiner 8bit-Codierung überholt ist und daher schlechtere Qualität liefert.

Aber vielleicht ist ja jemanden eine Hardwarekombination bekannt bei der eine TV-Karte mit SAA7134 Chipset läuft?

Wie versprochen poste ich mal die Antwort vom ASROCK-Support. Ich hatte vorgestern ein Anfrage vormuliert und schon nach EINEM (!) Tag eine Antwort erhalten.

Das Problem ist zwar noch nicht gelöst, aber man arbeitet noch an einer besseren BIOS-Version.

Dear Supportteam,

I need help for a specific problem with my not proper working TV-Card. The TV-Card is a Terratec Cinergy 600 with a Philips SAA7134 chipset.
When I turned on the TV software, I can only see a black screen. The audio signal is o.k.
After the flashing from the Mainboard-BIOS from version 1.10 to version 1.20, I can see the pictures, but it´s is not posibly to capture from TV with more than 12 Frames per Second.

I tryed almost everything:
-the latest driver from VIA4in1, grafikcard (Geforce2Ti500) and TV-Card (WDM)
-to change the positioning of the card into the PCI-Slots with no interrupt conflict
-new installation of Windows XP Prof.

The card was installed in a other mainboard before (ECS K7VZA and Duron700) with no problems.
My actual system setup:
-mainbord ASROCK K7VT2
-AMD Athlon XP 2000+
-2x128MByte SDRAM (no name brand)
-grafic adapter Gainward Geforce2Ti500 GoldenSample   IRQ11(at the BIOS PCI Device list)
-Soundcard SB Live!            IRQ10
-TV-Card Terratec Cinergy 600            IRQ05
-OS Win XP Prof. SP1

And here are my questions:
- Are you still working on a more proper BIOS for the K7VT2 series?
- What could be the reason for the "not proper working of TV-Card"? The memory modules of SDRAM? The chipset of the display card (Nvidia Geforce2)? Or is it a timing/stepping problem with the PCI bus?

After all I want to know if it make sense to wait for a newer BIOS-Version or have I to exchange some hardware components like the SDRAM or the grafic card ?

dann folgte nochmal ´ne kurze Rückfrage auf die ich das Problem nochmal genauer geschildert habe:
(ist zwar etwas trocken zu lesen, aber wer das selbe Problem hat den interessiert es schon)

Your question was: "Can you capture more 12 frams on ECS K7VZA?"

Yes it was possible. Until a Resolution of 480x567 and i.g.YUY2 there where no frames dropped (PAL 25,0 fps).
A higher reolution on capturing was limited by the less performance of the AMD Duron 700 CPU.
That was the reason I buyed a new motherboard with a faster cpu. The old mobo ECS K7VZA Rev1.0 supported only 100Mhz FSB.

To describe the mistake of the TV-Card more precisly:

At the beginning of setting up the new system (with K7VT2 and AMD XP2000+) I did a fresh installation of Win XP Prof. SP1 without any other PCI-Card like modem or soundcard. After windows installation I installed the mobo chipset driver from VIA 4in1 (latest 4.36), the USB2.0 support driver and the detonator driver pack (41.09) from nvidia grafik adapter (GF2Ti500).
After the basic installation steps I installed the tv-card (Terratec Cinergy600). The card was detected correctly. I installed the latest driver from terratec homepage (ver 1.4) and the tv software. The windows device manager shows no conflicts. The card is now pluged in PCI Slot 3.
After that I installed a soundcard (Creative SB Live!) and the modem card. (The AC97 onboard sound is disabled.)

The BIOS PCI Device list shows following:
AGP   gr.adapt.         IRQ11
Slot2   MMDevice(Soundblaster)   IRQ10
Slot3   MMDevice(TV-Card)      IRQ5
Slot5   Comm.Dev.(Modem)   IRQ3

Until here there occured no trouble.

And at the first running of the tv software (it switched into search/scanning mode) I see the tv window with sound and pictures (!). After the first scanning of tv stations an saving. And at this moment I saw never the tv pictures again. I can switch the tv stations, change the resolutions and so on. But the tv window is black.

This is 3 weeks ago. In the meantime I tryed severeal things. Complete new installation of OS and software. Exchanging the slot postion of the cards, tryed to modify the BIOS settings and contacting the terratec support for help. The terratec support suggested some changings, but I had try these changings already. (IRQ conflict, latest driver) So I sended the card to the terratec support. They can´t find any mistake, but exchanged the card into a new one. After the return I tryed the new one. But there was the same.
At the 28th dec 2002 I looked for a new BIOS version an the asrock homepage and found the version 1.20 release 13.12.2002. At the description I find -> " Fixed TV Card can't work.". I was very happy to read that. After flashing the BIOS. (to be on the safe side I reinstalled the tv card driver and software)
After the flashing the tv card is working, but not propper.
I noticed the following mistakes:
At a resolution less than 320x240 I can capture correctly. A resoltution more than 320x240(QVGA) is disturbed by stripes, interlacings and dropped frames. The frame rate sinks to around 12 fps. It makes no different if I change from i.g. YUY2 to RGB24 or waht ever. Also a higher resolution like 720x575 is captured with around 12 fps. The cpu is working with about 25-40%.

What could this be? Are some components incompatible?  Maybe the SD-RAM memory? Or the grafik adapter? Or could this be solveld by newer BIOS Version?
Please help me. I run out of ideas.

By the way: A friend have the same mainbord with a Pinnacle TV-Card. ( Booktree chipset) This is working fine.


And at the last I have a small question: At witch temperature the Mainboard-Overheat-Protection is turning of the system? My AMD XP 2000+ is running at 60 ° Celsius with no exessive usage.

Tcha, Ich hab auch mit denn netten leut bei ASROCK gechatted und ich weis ganz genau wieso die bios datum für den 1.20 bios auf einmal geändert hat...der CPU lufter anzeige hat kein lufter erkannt das unter 2500upm gedreht hat.  Und ich hab den leut dort davon informiert, und die haben es sofort korrigiert, ein test bios zu mir geschickt, und mich bedankt beim suche nach fehlern.

Was mir interresieren wird ist ob AGP Fast Writes notwendig sind für euhren TV karten....weil die sind nahmlich nicht aktiviert beim K7VT2, und ich hab ASROCK scho mehrmals gebbetten es anzuschalten...die haben gesagt es wird nachgeschauet......

Hi Billybones und alle anderen,

jedenfalls bemüht man sich (hoffentlich nicht vergebens) bei den ASRÖCKEN.
Das mit dem AGP FastWrite klingt nach einer möglichen Fehlerquelle. Vielleicht hat man es noch nicht im Zusammenhang mit SAA7134-Chip-TV-Karten bemerkt, da diese noch nicht so weit verbreitet ist wie die gängigen BT8XX-Karten.
Bei den BIOS Einstellungen habe ich auch schon mittlerweile alle Möglichen und Unmöglichen Varianten probiert. Viele sind es ja nicht gerade. Oc´en und Tweaken hatte ich auch anfangs beim MoBo kauf nicht so im Sinn, wenn es doch nur einfach laufen würde.  
Ansonsten habe ich keine Probleme damit. Sogar mein Noname SDRAM läuft anstandslos. Keine Installationsschwierigkeiten von XP, keine Hänger keine Abstürze.

Eine Weile warte ich noch ab. Wenn das nächste BIOS keine Verbesserung bringt, werde ich wohl wieder verkaufen müssen.

Ja, leider ist es so...warten und sehen!

Mindestens bei mir läuft mein Pinnacle TV karte, auch beim aufnehmen, aber wieso wies ich leider nicht! Bestimmt wegen den chip art oder so.

Das neue Bios 1.30 vom 12.3. 2003 soll die Probleme mit TV-Karten beheben.

Hierzu die Informationen von Asrock:
1.30

1. Open "AGP Fast Write" setup item in Advanced Chipset Configuration setup group.
  Default is "Disabled".
2. TV card can work.
3. Changed Boot Menu key to <F11>.
4. Display 'ACPI Compliant BIOS' in Post Sign On message.
5. Changed "PME# Power On" setup string to "PCI Devices Power On".
6. While Legacy USB is disabled, USB boot device still can boot.
7. Removed unnecessary beep sound during post.
8. BIOS can detect the CPU FAN speed which is less than 2600 RPM.
9. Adds a SETUP option to set SDRAM CAS latency.
10. Creative sound card works under Win 98SE/ME.
